Chennai, Nov 29: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President E V K S Elangovan today warned the Centre that it would face the opposition of Tamil people if BJP government forces schools to adopt Sanskrit as the third language.

"The Centre has adopted an educational policy which forces Sanskrit as the third language. If the Centre repeats such things, it will face the entire opposition of Tamil people," he told reporters here.

The Supreme Court had asked the Centre to consider not replacing German language with Sanskrit in Kendriya Vidyalayas in the middle of the ongoing academic session and implement the decision from next academic year.

Speaking about the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment scheme, Elangovan said the BJP government has revised the fund alloted from Rs 34,000 crore to Rs 23,000 crore. "Due to the reduction in fund allotment, there is a possibility that rural women may be denied jobs.

That should not happen. If such a situation arises, the Congress will bring the rural women and agitate in front of all government offices", he said. Referring to the inter-state water disputes between Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, Elangovan flayed the AIADMK government, saying it should have called an all-party meeting and expressed Tamil Nadu's voice in unison.
