This Durga Puja pray to ‘Maa’ Mamata Banerjee

The festival of Durga Puja is best experienced in Bengal. The biggest Hindu festival of the Bengalis has got a touch of politics this time. And we are not kidding about it. An idol of goddess Durga modelled on Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Chakdah, a suburban town in Bengal, has caught the attention of all.

The Chief Minister's idol as Maa Durga installed at the pandal in Chakdah is creating a lot of buzz among the devotees. Reports say thousands visited the pandal to pay obeisance to Durga Didi (Mamata Banerjee is well-known among her fans as Didi, meaning elder sister in Bengali).

The 5.5 feet idol, like the politician is dressed in her signature white-and-blue-border, white sari and slippers.

"The 10-hand fibreglass idol shows the politician holding symbols of/indicating towards the various government schemes she introduced in past five years, while ruling the state. The 10 hands are attached separately to Banerjee's statue, which portrays her with folded hands," reported The Indian Express.

The background features all the 25 districts of the eastern state. The idol also showcases some of the popular schemes introduced by the Chief Minister during her tenure.
