Things to know about your voters ID
Bangalore, Dec 2: Elector's Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) or voters ID card is necessary to exercise voting rights in India. It also serves as a vital identity proof and document in the country to avail various government services.

The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) is responsible for the preparation of electoral rolls for an assembly constituency. To get a voters ID card, one has to fill up Form 6 and submit it along with photographs to ERO.

Thanks to internet, voters can apply for EPIC online instead of going to ERO's office. They can download forms, fill them up, attach a photograph and submit it with state Chief Electoral Officers website.

It must be noted that if a person is working and living in a different city, then he/she doesn't have the right to cast vote in his/her native place. Also, a person can't enroll as a voter in more than one places.

Get yourself enrolled in voters list
To enroll in the voters list, one has to submit a filled in Form - 6 to the Electoral Regsitration Officer of the Assembly Constituency. This can be done online too. Go to your state Chief Electoral Officer's website. Open Form -6, fill it up and click submit. It's done !

Spelling mistakes in EPIC?
To correct any spelling mistakes in the voters card, form 8 has to be filled and submitted to ERO.
You can rectify errors in voter ID online. Log into the state's Election Commission website and click on E-Registration menu where Correct Your Card Option is displayed. There you can download Form 8 and fill it up.

Changing address
If you want to apply for a different polling booth in your assembly constituency or when you have changed the residence within the assembly constituency, you need to fill up Form 8A. This process is called transposition of the voters card.
But when you have shifted to new place, outside your assembly constituency, you will have to fill up Form 6 again and enroll as a new voter.

Lost your EPIC?
Lost your Voter ID card? Don't worry.
Head to the nearest police station and file an FIR. Dates of issuing Voters cards will be announced through newspapers. Deposit a copy of the FIR with ERO and fill up the Form 002. Also, you will have to pay a penalty of Rs 25 and submit copies of address proofs like PAN card, driving license etc.
