Tezpur air base ready to face any challenge: IAF official

Tezpur (Assam), Sep 23: The Tezpur air base in Assam is ready to face any challenge, be it facing the enemy or conducting peace time operations, Tezpur Air Force Station's Air Officer Commanding Commodore K V R Raju said today.

"The Air Force station in Tezpur is always ready to face any challenge. It is well equipped to face the enemy and to conduct peace time operations," he said at the Air Force Station amid the preparations for the 84th anniversary of Indian Air Force on October 8.

Assam

After the induction of two SU-30 MKI squadrons, now a squadron of Akash Missile has been introduced to the Tezpur Air Force base, while Brahmos missiles would be inducted into the base in the near future, Defence spokesperson Tezpur Lt Col Sombit Ghosh said.

"Tezpur Air force station is located at a distance of 172 km from China border, 146 km from Myanmar border and 160 km from Bangladesh border. The nearest three Airfields in China are almost 350 km away from this base," he said.

"Over the last eight decades, IAF has modernized itself into a professional force that ranks amongst the most competent and respected air force in the world," he said.

The Air Force Day celebrations began today in the Tezpur Air Base and will conclude with the main event on October 8, Ghosh added.
