Adhar card must not be made compulsory: Mamata Adhar card must not be made compulsory: Mamata Kolkata, Nov 1 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister MamataBanerjee today said that the Adhar card must not be madecompulsory to receive LPG gas subsidy and called for immediatereview of the Oil Ministry's move. "Adhar Card must not be made compulsory. Only 15 to 20per cent of the people have received the card," Banerjee toldreporters at the state secretariat here. "I am told that there is a verdict of the SupremeCourt that it cannot be made compulsory by the government forobtaining benefits and subsidies," she said. "I do not know how the government is violating theorder. The government should immediately review thedecision," the chief minister said. Reacting to an advertisement given by the Ministry ofPetroleum and Natural Gas in the day's newspapers linking LPGsubsidy to Adhar card for Kolkata, Howrah and Coochbehardistricts with immediate effect, she said "I am really shockedto see this attitude of the (central) government." "I am requesting the Prime Minister to look into theissue," she said. "People are not beggars, one party will not continue,but the government will continue.
