Statehood by languages, a failed proposal?
Hyderabad, Oct 5: The concept of Telangana statehood movement has proved that states formed by languages have failed. Agrees central information commissioner Madabhushi Sridhar.
Speaking at the launch of a book: 'Telangana: State formation, political and cultural movements', written by OneIndia Telugu editor, Kasula Pratap Reddy, Sridhar said that the book traces the combination of various political and cultural revolution that together formed the base of the Telangana movement. He further said,"Even Ambedkar foresaw the failure of linguistic states. The Telangana movement has corroborated his views."
Meanwhile, Telangana State Public Commission's initiative of introducing the history of the state in its recruitment examination syllabus, he said,"Finally, Telangana history is being studied by students even if it is for marks and getting jobs."
Urging writers and artists to save the Telugu language, he also proposed to spread the world in other regions like Andhra and Rayasaleema. He also said that the biggest threat that the language faces is from the film industry.
Press Academy chairman Allam Narayana discussed the book and said that the book can come in handy for candidates who will be appearing for their Telangana State Public Commission recruitment exams.
