Tehelka case: Goan cops seek emails, Shoma refutes allegations
Goan police, who are investigating the sexual assault case against Tehelka former editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, on Friday sought emails sent by the victim from Tehelka staff.
Tehelka editor Shoma Choudhry, who has been addressing media representing the magazine regarding the case, said the magazine has launched an internal probe into the incident. The probe panel is headed by eminent feminist Urvashi Bhutalia.
She refuted allegations that the actions taken by Tehelka were not appropriate, and said that Tarun Tejpal had given her an entirely different version of the whole incident. She said the magazine needs more time to take action and said, "Tarun Tejpal is not running away from the charges and he will fully cooperate with the probe panel".
However Goan police and media criticized Shoma for not registering a formal complaint with the police as soon as she received the email from the victim, and treating the matter as an 'internal issue'.
