Lucknow, Oct 24: A meeting that was organised to discuss the silver jubilee celebrations of the party turned into a full fledged family feud of the Yadavs in Uttar Pradesh. What began on an emotional note, soon turned into a full-fledged verbal duel between Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav.

Mulayam tried to broker peace between his son and brother, Shivpal while also making it clear that Amar Singh will stay in the party. This enraged Akhilesh who came on to the podium and said, "Singh is not acceptable in the party."

Tears, tantrums at SP Party meet

Mulayam then left the venue thus leaving the meeting on an indecisive note.

Mulayam who did his best to patch things up also ordered his son to go and hug his uncle, Shivpal and bury all differences. "I cannot leave either Shivapal or Amar Singh," said Mulayam while also stating that the latter's sins had been forgiven.

Mulayam continued to insist that the rift is not helping anyone. He, however, did not announce any change in the Chief Minister and said that Akhilesh would continue in that post. Post the meeting, a large number of SP workers assembled at the venue in Lucknow's Vikramaditya Road. The situation was tense and the presence of police in large numbers could be seen.

Party still divided:

One may have expected a resolution to the ongoing crisis in the party. While there were no changes made, the divide between father and son continued.

There was a heated exchange between Mulayam and Akhilesh. Mulayam even retorted and told the party workers, "Aap ka CM jhoot bol raha hai."(Your CM is lying).

Akhilesh was clearly upset that Mulayam had vouched for Amar Singh. "He is not acceptable in the party," Akhilesh screamed on top of his voice.

Earlier, Mulayam who spoke after Akhilesh and Shivpal, said that he was pained by this rift. "We are in a very difficult situation today. Instead of fighting our weakness we are fighting among each other. Those who are jumping around too much will not be able to bear it if they get hit by a stick," Mulayam said.

"We have worked very hard to form this party. We have given importance to the young. Some ministers are being sycophants. Those who cannot think big cannot be ministers," he also said.

Taking a clear dig at his son, he said that the one who cannot take criticism is unfit to be a leader. "Don't think I am weak. Don't think the youth is not with me. I am the bigger goon. I made the party. The young people in the party thinks they are goons, but I am the bigger goon," he also said.

Amar Singh's sins forgiven:

Mulayam while batting for both Amar Singh and Shivpal said that he will not forget what his brother had done for him. "Drunkards and goons have been added to the party. Some people get power and it goes to their head. Shivpal is the mass leader," he said.

"Amar Singh is like a brother to me. He stood by me during tough times. I won't hear a word against Shivpal," he further added. "All of Amar Singh's sins are forgiven. I cannot leave Singh or Shivpal," he further made it clear.

Citing the struggles of Narendra Modi, Mulayam said that he had become the prime minister due to his struggle and dedication. "He comes from a poor family and he really struggled, Mulayam also told party workers.

Mulayam once again made an appeal to the party workers to work together. "Please work together and don't fight," Mulayam said while telling his son to go hug Shivpal.

Despite all this, the meeting ended on a bitter note. Akhilesh reiterated that Amar Singh cannot be in the party. He even took offence to a newspaper article in which MLC, Ashu Malik had compared him to Aurangazeb and Mulayam to Shahjahan.
