Tea-vendor remark: Aiyar's TN office attacked
Chennai, Jan 18: A day after senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar made 'tea-vendor' remark against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, Aiyar's office in his home town in Tamil Nadu was attacked by miscreants. Also, BJP workers staged protests against him in the state.

Sources said that miscreants pelted stones at Aiyar's office in Mayiladuthurai. Security has been stepped up at the office.

At the AICC meet in New Delhi, Aiyar had said, "I promise you in 21st Century Narendra Modi will never become the Prime Minister of the country... But if he wants to distribute tea here, we will find a place for him". Aiyar was referring to Modi's humble beginnings as a tea-vendor at Ahmedabad railway station.

Aiyar was slammed by BJP as well as his party, Congress. Leaders including Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Ajay Maken spoke against Aiyar. Congress doesn't believe in personal attacks, Maken said.

Around 50 BJP workers staged a 'tea-selling' demonstration outside TNCC headquarters Sathyamurthy Bhavan in Tamil Nadu, protesting against Aiyar's remarks.
