TN's shifting political plates: Karuna sees 'V'? Vijaykanth, Vaiko may join DMK
In a recent press meet, DMK chief Karunanidhi said that MDMK's Vaiko is his friend and reciprocating his feelings was Vaiko who said that he is considering joining the party. In fact, both have been seen sharing the plane to an event and are sticking together for too long on many occasions.
Raising many eyebrows was Karunanidhi who made it very clear that he is not averse to join hands with 'friends' if the ideologies matched. At this point, it is important to remember that Jayalalithaa had taken over the Sri Lankan Tamil Rights Plank from both Vaiko and DMK with deft political moves.
At a party conference on Monday, Vaiko who had launched a broadside against AIADMK upheld the party's ideology on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue, saying that the state would be better off under the previous DMK regime on the law and order and growth front. However, his stance on NDA and the ongoing alliance was not known.
Actor-Politician Vijaykanth of DMDK too seems to have softened up on Karunanidhi. He called on the leader and express his desire for a united fight against the AIADMK in the civic bypolls.
While a stronger alliance against Jayalalithaa has a motive of its own, it has an underline too. Not confident of the BJP at the centre, axing his family members in the 2G scams, Karunanidhi made a smart move of drubbing the BJP in his homeland.
However, it is yet to be seen how the party chiefs overcome their past, especially when Vaiko had parted ways from the DMK over Stalin.
