Tamil Nadu: Elderly siblings commit suicide after man's death

Madurai, Nov 6: Two elderly women siblings, committed suicide at their house after one of their husbands died in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. According to police, Thanga Nadar (72) of Keelamavilai near Rajakkamangalam in Kanyakumari district was a retired clerk from the State Transport Department. He was living with his 70 year old wife Pushpam. Their only son was an engineer and lived in the United States with his family.

Pushpam had a sister Saraswathy who was a retired teacher and had come to live with her sister after her husband's death. Her only daughter was in Chennai.

A few months ago, Thanga Nadar fell ill and died a natural death, following which the two old women were inconsolable. When the son was informed, he said that he would be arriving soon and that the relatives should make all arrangements for the funeral. When arrangements for the same were underway, the two women walked into the storeroom of their house and locked themselves in. Finding them missing, the relatives checked inside the room and saw their bodies hanging from the ceiling with sarees.
