Tamil Nadu: Collector, MLA's car gheraoed in Cuddalore

Cuddalore, Feb 28: Cuddalore district collector T P Rajesh and AIADMK MLA of Virudhachalam T Kalaichelvan were gheraoed by villagers at Siruvamnbar, who were not satisfied with replies for provision of basic amenities like roads and drinking water at a grievance day meeting on Tuesday.
Tahsildar R Venugopal told reporters that the villagers submitted a memorandum to Collector and the MLA.
Besides roads and drinking water, they also demanded compensation for crop loss in view of the drought.
The Collector replied but the locals were not satisfied and started shouting slogans against him and the MLA, he said.
When they tried to leave the meeting venue in their cars, the villagers blocked the road for about 10 minutes. Police disbursed them and the Collector and MLA left the village with police escorts, Venugopal said.
