Mumbai, July 4: Singer Abhijeet is in news again for all the wrong reasons This time he called recent sensational murder case of an Infosys employee Swathi S, as a case of "love jihad", suggesting that her attacker was a Muslim.
The singer, who apparently suffers from foot in mouth disease, did not stop here and even went on to abuse a leading journalist Swati Chaturvedi on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
The controversy erupted on Saturday, July 2, over a tweet, that soon turned into an ugly war of words.
Abhijeet, who remained defiant, said that he had no regret and is not going to apologise. Instead, he called his choice of words as "intentional". He called her a besharam budhiya (shameless old woman) and also said that he had never heard of Swati Chaturvedi until Saturday when he got "trolled by the so-called journalist".
A news portal's editor-in-chief Rifat Jawaid also raised an objection to the controversial tweet by Abhijeet.
On being quizzed about police action, he said, "I don't give a damn. I know I'm alone in my fight, but I can be powerful too."
On Sunday, Swati registered a complaint with the Delhi Police against Abhijeet. Mumbai police also reached out to the journalist. A non-cognizable complaint was registered at the Vasant Vihar Police Station in Delhi.
Former NCW member Barkha Shukla on Monday advised Abhijeet to refrain from stirring controversies and focus on music.
This is not the first time when Abhijeet has landed in trouble over his bizarre statements on a number of issues.
