Suspected ISIS recruit from Telangana dies, say police

Hyderabad, May 4: The Telangana police are investigating the death of a youth who is alleged to have died after he had joined the ISIS in Syria.

Wasim Hateed a 25 year old engineer is said to have died in Syria allegedly after he had joined the ISIS, Telangana police claim.

It is said that Wasim who hailed Mancherial in Adilabad district had left for London to pursue a career. The police however said that he had gone missing from London and could have joined the ISIS in Syria.

Investigations underway:

The Telangana police say that Wasim had visited his home town in Mancherial seven months back to attend a family function. The police say that they are verifying whether he had left for Syria from London after being inspired by the ISIS.

We are checking his antecedents and have even informed his family about the same. We have spoken to several of his family members and friends both in Mancherial and Hyderabad where he studied engineering, the police also say.

No terror trail:

The investigations are still at a very preliminary stage. There has not been a single instance to show that he was involved in any sort of terror activities in Telangana or when he was in London.

The intelligence bureau which keeps tracks of such activities say that there is nothing concrete to even suggest now that he could have joined the ISIS. There is no trail and only a suspicion has led to the police believing that he may have joined the ISIS.

The police are trying to get in touch with their counterparts both in London and Syria to extract more information about Wasim. We have sent requests seeking out more information, the police also informed.
