Sushma back in LS, pitches for safety of Indians in the US

The opposition has been accusing the government of keeping silent on the hate crimes committed against Indians in the US.

New Delhi, March 15: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj spoke in Lok Sabha on Wednesday about the attacks on Indians in the US. The opposition has been accusing the government of keeping silent on the hate crimes committed against Indians in the US.

Swaraj said that she had talked to families of Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Deep Rai, also that the ministry had raised these issues with highest authorities in the US. She said that NDA Government doesn't take it lightly when Indian are in any sort of trouble wherever they may be.

She also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was busy campaigning for the assembly elections when the incidents of attack on American-Indians happened, used to inquire about how the ministry of external affairs was helping those affected in the US.

She also read out in the Lok Sabha few lines from the thank you letters that her ministry had received from wife of Srinivas and Rai's father. She also said that it is not true that US authorities have not condemned the incidents. She informed LS that US Secretary John Kerry and President Donald Trump had condemned these attacks on Indians in America.
