Heavy security deployment has been ensured in many parts of the city following the violence in which a bus was set ablaze and a bogey of the Prayag-Unchahar-Kanpur passenger train was set on fire.

Police resorted to mild cane charge and fired rubber bullets on the mob of agitating students.

Several companies of the provincial armed constabulary (PAC) and the rapid action force (RAF) have been deployed in the city to contain any further spread of the agitation on Thursday.

Home department officials are monitoring the situation and have kept extra forces on standby.

A paper of the PCS preliminary exams had leaked last week, putting the fate of lakhs of applicants in jeopardy.
