There appears to be no clarity on the truce claimed by Mulayam Singh Yadav. The Samajwadi party supremo claimed on Tuesday at a press conference in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh that they are one. However, the absence of Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister of UP at the press conference in which Shivpal Yadav was present did raise a few eyebrows.

Mulayam made another point that set eyeballs rolling. He said that it would be the legislators who would elect the leader. This gave the impression that Akhilesh Yadav is not the natural choice for CM candidate.

The big SP Pari'war' in UP

There are 12 key players in the Yadav clan. While each of them have taken the side of either Akhilesh or Shivpal, Mulayam Singh remains neutral. He has made it clear that he will not let go of either Shivpal or Amar Singh.

Make truce with both your uncles (Singh included) he told Akhilesh. However, Akhilesh is not prepared to accept Singh as his uncle and wants him out of the party.

The Yadav Pariwar

Mulayam Singh Yadav: Founder of the Samajwadi Party. Referred to as Netaji, both camps in the party say that they would listen only to him. However, the point is can Mulayam really strike a truce between his son and brother?

Akhilkesh Yadav: The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and son of Mulayam Singh. Considered a popular Chief Minister but not a mass leader. He has clear differences with Shivpal and Amar Singh. However, he says that he will let his father take the final call.

Shivpal Yadav: Brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Considered the most powerful man in the SP after Mulayam. Close to Amar Singh, but has strained relations with Akhilesh Yadav. Was also termed as the de-facto chief minister during Mulayam's stint as CM.
