A complaint was filed against singer Sonu Nigam in Haryana on Wednesday after he defended his tweets on loudspeakers. The complaint filed before the CJM Panipat was in retaliation to Nigam's statements on using loudspeakers for Azaan.

After sparking off a debate on the usage of loudspeakers for Azaan with his tweet, an emotional Sonu Nigam defended his comments. The singer who called for a press conference to clear the air about his statements also shaved his head to prove a point to a Muslim cleric who had issued a fatwa against him. Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, the vice president of the West Bengal Minority United Council had said that he would give Rs 10 lakh to anyone who can shave Nigam's hair, put a garland of old torn shoes around his neck and tour him around the country. The singer called such statements gundagardi.

"My comments were on a social issue and not a religious one. What is this country coming to? Doesn't the use of loudspeaker affect our children? I express regret if my comments have hurt anyone but I did not target any religion," the singer said. Nigam also claimed that he was not a supporter of the right-wing or the left-wing but was neutral. "There are very few people in the country who are neither right nor left. I am in the centre and I really am the minority in this country," the singer said.

Nigam asked why he was not allowed the right to his opinion. "Can't we show a little more tolerance?" he asked. The star singer claimed that he was hurt by statements that he had targetted a particular religion and clarified that his objection was to the use of loudspeakers by all. "Loudspeakers are not religious necessities," he said.

When asked if he would pay Rs 10 lakh to the man who shaved Sonu Nigam's head, Al Quaderi said that only one out of his three conditions were fulfilled. "I will give the money after he puts a garland of old torn shoes around Nigam neck and tours him around the country," he said.
