Sonia demands special status for Seemandhra
New Delhi, Feb 20: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday demanded special status for Seemandhra for five years after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, said sources.

Sonia reportedly asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to see whether special category status can be granted to Seemandhra for five years.

Special status to a state or region helps it win more funds from the centre and also, gives it more tax benefits to attract investments. A special status to

Kiran Kumar Reddy, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, had resigned on Wednesday in protest. He had also refused to head the caretaker government. Sources say that he will launch a new regional party soon.
