SIT prepares questionnaire for Karnataka Lokayukta
New Delhi, Aug 13: Justice R Bhaskar Rao, Lokayukta of Karnataka is likely to be questioned by the Special Investigating Team on August 17th. A questionnaire has already been prepared by the SIT which is probing into various allegations of corruption within the Karnataka Lokayukta's office.
Justice Rao currently is on leave and is expected to reach office on August 17th. He is expected to return to Bengaluru on August 14th, but the questionnaire will be handed over to him only on August 17th sources informed.
The SIT which has taken over the probe into the corruption allegations leveled against the Lokayukta's office will hand over the questionnaire to Justice Rao. He will be required to send in his written replies to the SIT. If the need be there will be another round of questioning an SIT official said.
Does Karnataka Lokayukta have moral right to probe corruption?
There are a couple of pertinent questions that would be asked. There are several allegations of misuse of powers by officers of the Lokayukta. Justice Rao will be asked whether he had knowledge of the same and if he did what action was taken to prevent the same.
Further questions regarding the misuse of the telephones in the Lokayukta's office as well as residence will be a subject matter of the questionnaire. He would be asked to explain who used these phones in a bid to making an alleged extortion demand. This is the basis of the entire case an SIT officer explained while adding that the answers given by the Lokayukta will be tallied with the ones given by the other accused in the case.
