The 8 members of banned group SIMI or Students Islamic Movement of India, who were killed in an encounter hours after they managed to escape from Bhopal jail on Sunday had no weapons.
New Delhi, Nov 2: The 8 members of banned group SIMI or Students Islamic Movement of India, who were killed in an encounter hours after they managed to escape from Bhopal jail on Sunday had no weapons. This has been stated by the the chief of the Madhya Pradesh anti-terror squad or ATS.
"The eight prisoners had no gun at the site where they were killed, Sanjeev Shami was quoted as saying by NDTV.
The SIMI men who were killed have been identified as Sheikh Mujeeb, Khaled, Aqeel, Majid, Zaqir Hussain, Mohammad Saliq, Sheikh Mehboob and Amjad.
8 SIMI operatives who escaped from Bhopal jail killed in encounter
Immediately after the escape, the Madhya Pradesh police swung into action and tracked the operatives down. They were planning their escape out of the state but were cornered at the Einthkedi village on the outskirts of Bhopal. The operatives were accused in the Ahmedabad serial blasts case. They were also being tried for the Karimnagar, Pune and Chennai blasts.
