It is a well known fact that the president of the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi lives in a house bigger than the Prime Minister's residence. A lot of people have been questioning how the Congress president lives in a house bigger than the Prime Minister of India's residence. 10 Janpath is the official residence of Sonia Gandhi.
An RTI which was recently filed revealed that 10 Janpath is bigger than PM's RCR.
Sonia Gandhi's residence is spread over 15,181 sq m while the Prime Minister's, is smaller at 14,101 sq m.
The other question being asked if the tax payers money should be used for the accomodation and bungalows of a person who does not hold any official position? Earlier it was said that she required such a big house for security reasons and also the fact that she received several international dignitaries. However that is not the case today.
My Vote Today, India's leading e-pollster ran a poll in this regard. In the poll it asked, " with 44 MPs in Lok Sabha, should Congress President Sonia Gandhi have an official bungalow larger that the PM of India. The results clearly showed that Sonia Gandhi should not have a bigger house than the PM. 73 per cent said no, 26 per cent said yes and 1 per cent said maybe (see info graphic).
Danish Manzoor, Chief Content Officer @MyVoteToday says in 2013-2014 a sum of Rs 51.43 lakh was spent on the maintanence of electrical fittings at 10 Janpath. Could this amount not have been use for development, he asks. It is shocking that we call it her official residence despite her not holding "any" official post. The 3.75 acres of land is worth over Rs 1,600 crore. Do you see any other party president having such a large residence, Manzoor also asks.
