The officer Yuvraj Badane was seriously injuries and is being treated at a hospital in Kalyan and is out of danger, said a Times of India report.
The attack happened when Badane and three staffers were on an official duty at an illegal construction near camp number 3 in Ulhasnagar. Shiv Sena workers asked Badane to stop the work and leave the place saying the construction was being done with the approval of Sena party president in Ulhasnagar Rajendra Chaudhari. The officer refused and then the workers manhandled him. Chaudhari came to the spot soon and joined in the assault.
Chaudhari said Badane was targeting slumdwellers deliberately. "Badane is going after slums but protects big illegal constructions in the city," Chaudhari said.
However, the police are yet to register a case. Sources said that Sena leaders have threatened to file a false molestation case against Badane if a case is registered over the assault on him.
