Mumbai, Sept 10: Almost two weeks after the investigation in the Sheena Bora murder case, the probe seems to have come to a halt. Rakesh Maria, who was heading the investigation, was not sure whether he would continue to investigate the case or not.
Maria recently has been promoted from the Mumbai Police Commissioner to Director General of Police. Now, the current Mumbai Police Commissioner is Ahmed Javed.
Media reports quoted sources as saying, "In Mumbai there is a Commissioner who has been duly appointed. As per norms, all officers and men are to report to him."
"In case of Maria overseeing the probe, in what capacity he would be doing it? The powers conferred on a Commissioner of Police is different from that of Home Guards chief. There are several other issues," sources added while speaking to media.
Meanwhile, Rakesh Maria, who confirmed that he would not resign from his current post, refused to comment on Sheena Bora murder case.
He also clarified that he cannot investigate the case untill unless he receives any written notice, which ideally should come from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who holds the Home portfolio.
Fadvanis, however, is in Japan currently. Hence, he has not sent any written notice to Maria regarding Sheena Bora murder investigation.
Sheena Bora had gone missing in 2012. Her mother Indrani Mukerjea, who is the wife of former CEO of Star TV Network Peter Mukerjea, has been arrested as the main accused in the case.
Indrani along with her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai was accused of killing Sheena. It has been claimed that the trio allegedly killed Sheena and disposed of her body in a jungle in Raigard, near Mumbai.
Sheena was Indrani's daughter from her first marriage with Siddharth Das. Sheena was in a relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, who is Peter Mukerjea's son from his previous marriage.
