Earlier Tejpal was denied bail when the defense feared that he might influence witnesses and the victim if he was allowed bail. Assuring the Supreme Court on Monday, April 21, senior advocate Harish Salve appearing for Tejpal, told the apex court that if granted bail the former Tehelka editor will not come to Delhi where the complainant and witnesses stay.
However, the Supreme Court rejected Tejpal plea of interim bail, hence, he will remain in jail in Goa. The court also sent a notice to Goa government regarding Tejpal's bail plea. Police have been asked to file its reply within four weeks.
50-year-old Tejpal was arrested following sexual assault allegations by one of his former Tehelka colleague in a hotel in Goa. Tejpal has been chargesheeted for allegedly raping, sexually harassing and outraging the modesty of a junior colleague.
