Sexual Assault: It wasn't rape but consensual act, says Tarun Tejpal

Panaji, Dec 5: Six days after his arrest by Goa Police, Tarun Tejpal once again reiterated that it was not rape, rather it was a consensual act. Tejpal, the former Editor-in-chief of Tehelka, spoke about sexual assault allegations hurled against him by one of his former colleagues in the magazine.

One Goa Police official, on the condition anonymity, told, "The investigation is heading in the right direction and we are interrogating Tarun Tejpal in detail...He is cooperating."

"...Tarun Tejpal has been maintaining that the act was consensual though he has not denied having indulged in the act," said the officer and also added, "We hardly get time to interrogate him. The Goa Medical College has now called (him) for the third round of medical examination."

Tejpal, however, confessed to sending mails to the victim and the then Managing Editor of Tehelka, Shoma Chowdhury. Police are all set to grill Shoma once again as she has been summoned by the cops.

Meanwhile, the officer informed that Goa Police will ask for extension of Tejpal's police custody which ends on Friday, Dec 6.

Tejpal, the renowned journalist, has been accused of sexually assaulting a young journalist at a starred hotel in Goa during Tehelka's ThinkFest in Nov 2013. The victim resigned from the media house following the controversy over the case.
