Severe cold in Kashmir Valley, bright sunshine in Jammu

Jammu/Srinagar, Jan 18: Severe cold continued in Kashmir Valley as bright sunshine greeted people in Jammu city on Monday, a day after cloudy and cold weather.

"The minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 4.2 degrees Celsius today (Monday). Due to cloud cover, the maximum temperature is likely to hover around eight degrees in the city," an official of the local Met department said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 2.7 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam and minus five degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, the weather office said.

"Leh town recorded minus 13.3 degrees Celsius while Kargil town recorded minus 12.0 degrees Celsius in the Ladakh region."

The official said the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degrees Celsius in Jammu city on Monday while the maximum is likely to hover around 18 degrees Celsius.

"Bright sunshine during the day is likely to push up the maximum temperature in Jammu city today (Monday)," the official said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 5.3 degrees Celsius in Mata Vaishno Devi base camp town of Katra and it was 2.5 degrees Celsius in Batote, minus 0.5 degrees Celsius in Bannihal and minus 0.4 degrees Celsius in Bhaderwah town of Jammu region.

Dry weather will continue in Jammu and Kashmir during the night for two days.
