New Delhi, Dec 17: As the assembly elections are nearing in poll-bound Delhi, political leaders are making full use of the period before announcement of model code of conduct by jumping ships and joining the parties suiting their future prospects.

Days after an angry former Delhi Speaker and Aam Aadmi Party MLA, MS Dhir, left the party as he was denied ticket and joined the BJP, ex-BJP MLA and deputy speaker of Delhi Assembly, Fateh Singh, has joined rival AAP.

Ex-BJP MLA joins rival AAP
Singh along with three other colleagues joined AAP during a rally in Shahdara on Tuesday. Three others who joined AAP with Singh are Prem Chand Gupta, Dharmendra Gupta and Satpal Yadav.

Soon after joining AAP Singh, who was deputy speaker in Delhi assembly in 1995, attacked the BJP for only making hollow promises and fulfilling none.

"I have been associated with BJP for several years but realized that it is easy to make empty promises. Only AAP can give this country some direction," Singh was quoted by a TOI report.

Singh's joining hands with rival AAP has shocked BJP's Delhi unit. The leaders in the party have termed it 'very unfortunate'. They also said that the leader should have informed senior party leaders about the same.

"It is unfortunate that he has joined another party. He should have spoken to senior party leaders if he had any issue. But it is his wish." Delhi BJP spokesperson was quoted as saying.

It is a matter of shock for the BJP because so far the party was seeing rivals charmed by Narendra Modi were joining hands with it, but it is the first incident when any BJP leader has switched loyalities.
