SC rejects plea on 2002 riots, Refuses to reconstitute SIT
New Delhi, April 11: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea questioning the Special Investigation Team probe giving clean chit to BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots.

The apex court described the plea as 'baseless'and declined the appeal to reconstitute SIT.

The court decision was on nine cases related to the 2002 riots in Gujarat post Godhra. On April 4, the court had expressed satisfaction over probes by the SIT, which had given clean chit to Modi for his alleged involvement in the riots which killed many people.

In December, an Ahmedabad court had rejected a protest petition filed against the clean chit given to Modi. The Congress, however, did not agree that the court developments were actually a clean chit to Modi.

The Supreme Court decision has come as a delight to BJP workers.
