The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Tamil Nadu police to file an FIR against minister Kamaraj. The minister, a close aide of Sasikala Natarajan and Dinakaran, is accused of cheating a real estate businessman of Rs 15 lakh. The petitioner had sought the Supreme Court's intervention after the high court ruled in the minister's favour.

SVS Kumar a resident of Thiruvarur district in a petition alleged that Kamaraj promised to help him get a house vacated and took Rs 15 lakh. The petition alleged that the man who was elected from Nannilam and went on to become a minister in the Tamil Nadu cabinet neither got the house vacated nor returned the money. The petitioner also alleged that he was issued death threats and miscreants were sent to his house to threaten him.

The petitioner claimed that he sought the court's intervention since the police in Mannargudi had conspired with minister Kamaraj and took away all the evidence presented in the case. Following the petition seeking supreme court's directions to the police to take up the case, the apex court ordered for an FIR to be filed against the minister.

It may be noted that Kamaraj was one of the ministers who was accused of attempting to stop income tax raids at Dinakaran's residence. Following a complaint by the income tax officials that the minister obstructed officials from doing their duty, the Chennai police filed a case against him.
