Addressing the media after meeting AIADMK legislators at the party headquarters party general secretary Sasikala Natarajan accused Chief Minuister O Panneerselvam of being in cahoots with the DMK to destroy the AIADMK as well as all values that Jayalalithaa stood for.
"Traitors have never won. Such dirty tricks will not be tolerated. Panneerselvam has lied to the people of Tamil Nadu. Who has he been interacting with in the last 48 hours? Is Panneerselvam falling victim to the opposition parties' games?" she asked.
She said that she was so shaken when Jayalalithaa passed away that she was not in the position to take over the reigns of the party.
Sasikala claimed that none can break the party's unity soon after the meeting of legislators at the party headquarters.
"Nobody can split the IADMK. What has changed in the last 48 hours? All the party members have to be together till the end without going behind anyone else. The great force of the AIADMK cannot be split by anybody".
Sasikala claimed that supporters asked her to take over the reigns of the party soon after Jayalalithaa's death but she was not in a position to accept the same. She claimed that Panneerselvam was deviating from the path that Jayalalithaa had planned for the party.
"I hope that all of you will stand with me so we can show these betrayers, traitors and naysayers the true power of Amma," she said.
Acknowledging that a confusing situation was prevailing in Tamil Nadu, she promised to clear the confusion in a matter of days. She time and again sought the support of AIADMK party members for her 'fight against enemies'. She invoked MGR (M G Ramachandran) and said that fear was foolish and this was the time for the party to stand united.
In a bid to 'out Panneerselvam's lies', Sasikala said that she was not aware of the MLAs' meet on Sunday and was informed of their decision only after she was elected as the leader of the legislative party.
It may be noted that just a couple of days ago, Sasikala had profusely thanked Panneerselvam for proposing her name for the post of AIADMK's legislative party leader. She had hailed him as a loyalist of Jayalalithaa but the scenario has taken a roundabout with her accusing him to siding with 'the party that Amma fought', the DMK and destroying the AIADMK.
