Sand mafia attacks forest officer
Bhopal, Jan 10: The sand mafia in the region on Thursday tried to set a Deputy Forest Ranger on fire in Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh, said an IBN live report

The deputy forest ranger escaped with injuries and has been admitted to a local hospital. A case has been filed against the accused, but no arrest has been made so far. Police have started the investigation.

This is not the first time the sand mafia attacking government employees in the region where illegal sand mining is rampant. A police constable was killed in 2013 when he was trying to chase the sand mafia in Madhya Pradesh.

The police had arrested an alleged sand mafia kingpin and former dacoit Kuber Singh in connection with the firing on policemen and other officials on Friday. And in a related development, contracts of 14 sand mines allegedly indulging in illegal mining have also been cancelled.
