Speaking about Yakub Memon's death sentence, the actor surprised everyone. In a series of tweets, Salman Khan urged Indian government to hang Tiger Memon and not his brother Yakub.
But, the actor's comments on the issues have drawn sharp criticism from the political circle and lawyers, while the film fraternity has come out in support of the Bollywood star.
Here's who is reacting and how on his recent statement:
Ujjwal Nikam, senior advocate: When an actor was found guilty under arms act after 1993 blasts, Bollywood started a campaign titled 'Baba you are innocent, we're with you'. I said this campaign is interference in judicial process, must be withdrawan. Campaign was immediately withdrawn, I expect Salman Khan to do the same, he must express regret over what he said.
Shatrughan Sinha, actor and BJP MP: Agar usne aisa kaha hai to aap uski bhaavnayon ko samajhiye (If he (Salman) has said so, then you must understand his feelings).
Raza Murad, actor: That's Salman's personal opinion, he has a right to express opinion as a citizen of democratic nation.
Abha Singh, lawyer: Salman himself is a convict who has been given a punishment of 5 yrs, still he has audacity to say Yakub is innocent. Is he trying to question judicial system of country? His statement is very improper and against rule of law.
Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena chief: Is he trying to question the judicial system of the nation? One shouldn't pay attention to such things, it should be ignored.
Baba Ramdev: Hanging traitors is important but it's also important to teach a lesson to all those who stand with the enemies of humanity and nation.
Salim Khan, Salman Khan's father: My son's tweets regarding Yakub Memon are meaningless. I do not support his statements. His tweets are wrong.
BJP: Salman Khan must retract his comments.
