Salman Khan's hit-and-run case: Mystery intensified over missing case diary
According police statement, the papers and the diary have been recovered from the office of an inspector. One of the junior staffs of police kept it in his office while the police station was renovated.
Police officials, who asserted that it was not a deliberate act, also added that the responsible person would face punishment. A senior official was quoted as saying, "However we are going to fix the responsibility of the persons in the incident in our inquiry report."

Continuing his statement, he added, "There was no ulterior motive behind it. They handled the sensitive case paper with casual approach, so they should face action for their negligence."
One session court in Mumbai, who postponed the case hearing till Sept 12 over hullabaloos over missing case diary, asked the IO (Investigating Officer) to be present in the court related to the case, and also asked for the filing of affidavit.

Case diary is one of the most important parts of court proceeding. The police maintains this diary for every case as it carries detailed information on investigations conducted at every stage.
Importance of case diary:
As per law, the court needs the original documents to corroborate the prosecution's evidence and for the trial to proceed.
