Saffron flag unfurls in Manipur, BJP graduates from ‘zero’ to ‘hero’
After Assam, the BJP continues its winning march in Manipur, as early election result trends suggest.
Imphal, March 11: During the Manipur Assembly elections 2012, the Bharatiya Janata Party was nowhere to be seen. Five years down the line, the saffron party has emerged as the ruling Congress' biggest nemesis.
According to the early trends of Manipur Assembly election results of 2017, the Congress has won eight seats and the BJP three. Moreover, both the rival parties are leading in 17 seats each. It is a big victory for the BJP cadres in the state, as the saffron party opened its account for the first time in the hill state. Last year, we saw the BJP coming to power in the neighbouring state of Assam.
Earlier, the party national general secretary Ram Madhav said the northeast region was in the grip of BJP wave. "The saffron party will form government in Manipur."
"The BJP's performance will be historic in Manipur, we had won no seat in 2012 and now we are poised to win majority," Madhav told ANI.
