RSS-BJP meeting ends; PM issue not discussed, say sources

New Delhi, Sept 9: The crucial two-day meeting between the BJP and RSS concluded in New Delhi on Monday. The meeting was perceived to be a major ice-breaking exercise by the RSS to make the BJP reach a consensus on Narendra Modi's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

However, sources in the RSS said the meeting was held more to decide on the election strategy and not to make any announcement on Modi as the PM candidate.

The issue of Narendra Modi was not discussed at the meeting, said sources

Earlier reports said that the RSS top brass was trying to persuade senior BJP leaders like LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj to accept the immediate elevation of Modi but the duo reportedly wanted it to happen after the assembly elections due later this year get over. Other BJP leaders like Arun Jaitley are also in favour of immediate announcement. The RSS reportedly left the decision to declare the timing to party president Rajnath Singh.
