Reasons behind SP's poor show reviewed: Akhilesh
Lucknow, May 20: Amid demands of his resignation over the dismal showing by the ruling Samajwadi party in the Lok Sabha elections in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today indicated that he was in no mood to quit and reasons behind SP's poor show were being reviewed.

The latest reports say that Akhilesh Yadav sacked 36 leaders having status of minister of state in his government sources as part of party overhaul.

"The political equations of all the states are different.. one state cannot be compared to another", Akhilsh said in response to questions on whether he would follow his Bihar counterpart, who resigned after the announcement of the elections results.

The chief minister who today presided over the first cabinet meeting after the completion of the polls said the reasons behind his SP's poor show are being reviewed in detail by the party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. A meeting for the same would be called and action would be taken against those found lagging later, he said. "The government took prompt decisions and implemented schemes but the Samajwadi Party failed to publicise them among the people", he said, adding "SP is far ahead in works but lags behind in its publicity".

No one can dispute that government brought good schemes for the welfare of the people, he claimed naming some of them and stressing that all would agree that they are good decisions. Akhilesh said that all respect the mandate, the decision of the public and now concrete steps would be taken to take the state on the path of development.

To a question on whether he would go to meet Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi whose party has got a massive mandate, Akhilesh said ties between the state and the Centre would be as per the federal structure. Ostensibly remarking on Modi's promise to clean Ganga, Akhilesh said he would see how it would be done in the next five years, adding there are other rivers too like Yamuna, Betwa, Ken and Chambal, and they too need to be cleaned.

The chief minister who has been authorised by his Cabinet to convene the Budget Session of the Vidhan Sabha said that dates for the same would be decided soon.
