Ramdev ignites homosexuality controversy, calls Congress ministers gay
The yoga guru claimed that according to him, most Congress leaders are "gay' as they have been supporting homosexuality. Many Congress leaders including its President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi have been opposing Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that criminalises homosexuality.
On the contrary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders along with the the yoga guru have been supporting the apex court's verdict of criminalising of sec 377 in connection with homosexuality in the country.
Most Congress leaders seem to be gay, claims Baba Ramdev
Addressing a press conference in Haridwar, Ramdev irked Congress ministers while calling them "gay". Ramdev considers homosexuality a disease and says there is a cure for it in yoga.
The top court's order irked many in the country. Several protests rallies have been held across the country. Renown writer Vikram Seth also opposed the apex court's decision. Attending a function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Seth was quoted as saying, "I would say in a perfectly parallel mode that intolerance is violence. And accepted intolerance is violence with the acquiescence of the society. Basically, there is no point wrapping yourself up in a flag when you don't realize that the flag has more than one component."
"There are different colours in it, they mean different things and in the heart of it is the wheel ... the wheel of justice, the recycle of life, the wheel of law. We cannot have intolerance within the family... and we certainly cannot have intolerance in the country as a whole," he added.
