Ramdev cornered, faces arrest under SC/ST Act for anti-Dalit remark

New Delhi, April 29: Yoga Guru Ramdev Baba's outrageous "honeymoon" dig at Rahul Gandhi cost him the wrath of the Election Commission and the Dalits. While the EC may hold him accountable for the highest penalty of practising and preaching untouchability, the latter slapped 2 FIRs against him under the prevention of the SC-ST Act.

In fact, the poll panel has also prohibited Ramdev from campaigning for BJP in HImachal Pradesh and Amethi in view of vigorous protests against him. On Sunday, an FIR was launched against him in Gorakhpur and 2 more FIRs were lodged against him in Agra and Patna on Monday.

Bihar's Food and Consumer Protection minister Shyam Razak and the Dr BR Ambedkar Bar Association in Agra filed a complaint under the prevention of SC-ST law. A case has also been registered against BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain in Agra for backing Ramdev's objectionable comment.

Baba Ramdev, however, believes that he has been misinterpreted. He said,"People have interpreted my 'honeymoon' comment wrongly. I did not intend to insult Dalits. I did not mean to insult Rahul Gandhi or Dalits. He indulges in publicity with photos of him sitting in their homes. If my statement hurt the Dalits, I regret it."
