Arunachal revises royalty on timber Arunachal revises royalty on timber Itanagar Dec 13 (PTI) The Arunachal Pradesh cabinethas approved fixing of 40 per cent royalty on timber and otherforest produce in the state, revising the rate after two yearsas per the cost inflation index over 2007. The cabinet headed by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki onTuesday took the decision to boost the exchequer, followingthe Supreme Court’s ban on timber operation since 1996 leadingto drying up of the main revenue source of the state,government spokesman Nabam Rebia said in a statement heretoday. This would help enrich the coffers of the statefacilitating taking up of more development activities, Rebiasaid. Concerned at the recent outbreak of 'epidemic' inLongding district, the cabinet approved creation of a districthospital for Longding with specialist doctors for children,medicine, gynaecology, surgery and anaesthesia. In order to discourage and minimise tobaccoconsumption in the state, the cabinet approved increasing theexisting tax on tobacco products from 12.5 per cent to 20 percent, Rebia said. He said that the department of Information Technologyhas been renamed as department of Information Technology andCommunication, considering technical bottlenecks infacilitating effective IT related activities. Realising the huge potential of tourism sector, thecabinet OKed a landmark leasing policy under public privatepartnership mode to lease out tourism infrastructures toprivate parties, NGOs and tour operators to give a new thrustto the sector, the spokesman added.
