Rajiv Bansal appointed interim CMD of Air India
Rajiv Bansal, additional secretary and financial advisor at oil ministry was on Wednesday appointed as the next Air India CMD for 3 months after Ashwani Lohani was appointed Chairman of Railway Board, ANI reported.
The Railway Ministry appointed Ashwani Lohani as the new Chairman of Railway Board after AK Mital tendered his resignation following the derailment of Kaifiyat Express near Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh. An officer with the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Lohani currently is the Chairman & Managing Director of Air India.
He is taking over as Air India CMD at a time when the government is working on the modalities for the disinvestment of the loss-making national carrier. He had served at the civil aviation ministry between 2006 and 2008.
Who is Rajiv Bansal ?
Bansal is an IAS officer of 1988 Nagaland cadre. He was earlier in Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) where he was looking after Digital Payments, IT Act, Aadhaar, and Internet Governance. During his career spanning almost 30 years, Bansal has worked as Secretary, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), Joint Secretary, Department of Heavy Industries, Government of India and Director, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. He has earlier been on the Board BHEL, NACIL, AYCL, Alliance Air, HMT and GITA. He has also held important assignments in the State Government.
He is a Civil Engineer by profession having graduated from IIT, Delhi in 1986 and has a Diploma in Finance from ICFAI, Hyderabad and an Executive Masters in International Business from IIFT, New Delhi.
