Railway employee booked for rape, bigamy in Punjab
Pathankot, Sep 4: A railway employee was on Friday booked on charges of rape and bigamy, after tying the knot for the second time despite the existence of his first marriage, police said.
Police said that a woman had complained that the accused one Ashok Kumar Gill, working as Health Officer (Malaria) in Northern Railway, met her at Railway quarters here in 2005.
The accused had made a proposal of marriage to the victim to which she agreed as she was a divorcee, they said. The accused married the victim at Sherpur village here on October 20, 2006.
Thereafter, she gave birth to two boys from this marriage, police said. After that, the accused started ignoring the victim and even ousted her from his house.
Police said on verification it was established that the accused was already married. As per the victim's complaint, the accused used to sexually abuse her, they said.
A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused who is absconding, they said.
