Rahul Gandhi: Poor need to be empowered
Salumber, Sept 12: "Eat full roti, work 100 days and vote for Congress," said Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi as he addressed a rally here on Wednesday.

Rahul Gandhi kick started the party election campaign here. During his rally he made references to the recently introduced Food Security Bill, the NREGA scheme and free medicines scheme. Addressing an adivasi kisan rally he said: "Aadhi roti khayange, Congress laayenge is an old slogan. Now it should be poori roti khayenge, sau din kaam karenge, dawai khayange aur Congress ko laayenge."

His rally was organised a day after the BJP election campaign committee chief Narendra Modi took a dig at the UPA government and blamed them for corruption, and the current economic crisis.

"The Opposition thinks poor are a burden on the country"

Rahul Gandhi too didnt hold back and lashed at BJP saying that Congress has always worked for the poor and the common man. "The Opposition thinks that the poor are a burden on the country," he said. He even criticised the Opposition for their attempt to block the Food Security Bill in the Parliment.

He went on to add that the country is built by the sweat and blood of the poor people. "If we don't think of their benefit and do not empower them, then there is no point in being in politics," he said.

His next rally in the state will be on September 17.
