Congress coming with big surprise for Rahul Gandhi on Jan 17
After poll debacle in four crucial states -- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Delhi, Congress seems to have fasten its belt ahead of Lok Sabha election which is expected to be held by May 2014. Rahul Gandhi might be declared Prime Minister (PM) candidate of Congress for the upcoming general election.
According to sources, many senior Congress leaders and ministers believe that the party can restore its image if it declares Rahul Gandhi as its PM candidate. Rahul's elevation in the party may pose a threat for BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi.
Rahul Gandhi might be declared as Congress' PM candidate for 2014 poll
Digvijay Singh, AICC general secretary, earlier had claimed that Congress should ensure that Rahul is declared the PM candidate. Union Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was the chairman of the campaign committee in Madhya Pradesh polls, also demanded Rahul's promotion in the party.
However, many experts believe that Congress should not make Rahul its PM candidate. After the poll debacle in many states, Congress should think about one leader who can perform better than Rahul as Manmohan Singh's predecessor in UPA III, claim experts.
