Chandigarh, Nov 28: Palwinder Singh Pinda, one of the key accused in the Punjab jail break case, has told the police he had no intention of freeing Khalistan Liberation Force militant Harminder Singh Mintoo.
On Sunday 10 men stormed into the Nabha jail in Punjab and took away with them dreaded terrorist and Khalistan Liberation Force Chief, Harminder Singh Mintoo and four others.
The ten armed men wearing police uniforms fired 100 rounds before taking away Mintoo and four others with them.
The other gangsters who were freed by the armed men have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, Vicky Gondhra, Nitin Deol and Vikramjeet Singh Vicky.
Pinda who was arrested in Uttar Pradesh a few hours after the jail break said that he and his gang members had entered the jail to free the four gangsters. We had no intention of freeing Mintoo, he said.
When Mintoo learnt of the jail break he accompanied us, Pinda also told the police. He further confessed to the UP police it was Vicky Gounder who had told Mintoo about the jail break.

Investigations being conducted have led the police to believe that there could have been an inside job.
It is clear that the gangsters were in touch with Pinda and others over phone. They had discussed the jail break over phone, investigations show.
When the ten armed men reached the jail premises they split into two groups. One group fired at least 35 rounds in the air while the other headed to the jail corridor.
Out there they overpowered the guards before freeing the gangsters and Mintoo.
Preliminary investigations show that one of the gangsters was stopped by a security personnel. However he managed to overpower him and also snatched his pistol.
