Amritsar, July 20: Artists are always known to be unique. So, on Thursday, when India got its 14th President, Ram Nath Kovind, an artist from Amritsar, Punjab, decided to welcome the news in his own 'artistic' style.

Painter Jagjot Singh Rubal finished a massive portrait of the president-elect at his home studio in Amritsar on Thursday. In the portrait, the 71-year-old former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former governor of Bihar, was seen flashing his gentle smile.

Like in real life, in the portrait too, Kovind was seen wearing his favourite grey suit.

The Punjab artist said he made the portrait to congratulate Kovind, the Dalit lawyer-turned-leader known for his works for the downtrodden and weaker sections of society.

Rubal is popular for painting massive portraits of famous personalities from across the globe. Earlier this year, Rubal painted a portrait of US President Donald Trump before his inauguration.

Meanwhile, congratulatory messages continue to pour in for president-elect Kovind from across the country. From country's top politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, to Twiterrati, everyone congratulated Kovind.

Kovind, fielded by the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as their presidential candidate, won the elections by defeating the Opposition's nominee, Meira Kumar, the former speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Kovind secured the votes of 65.65 per cent of the electoral college, while the remaining 34.35 per cent went to Kumar, a senior Congress leader.

He will be sworn in on July 25. Kovind is the first BJP leader to enter the Rashtrapati Bhawan. After KR Narayanan, Kovind is the second Dalit President that India has elected.
