Srinagar, Nov 9: Violent clashes broke out in parts of Srinagar on Monday in protest against a youth's killing on Saturday, leading to the closure of shops and causing traffic snarls in many areas.
A large number of youths took to streets in old city Srinagar early morning and blocked roads. They also pelted stones on security forces.
Security forces lobbed tear smoke shells to disperse the stone-pelting protestors.
As clashes broke out, shopkeepers pulled their shutters down and the traffic came to a halt in Nowhatta, Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal and Kawadara areas of old city Srinagar.
Long queues of vehicles stuck on road and were seen as traffic got diverted to other city routes leading a massive snarl.
In Zainakote area on the city's outskirts, where a youth Gowhar Ahmad Dar was killed on Saturday in clashes with CRPF forces, clashes continued on the third consecutive day on Monday.
Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a magisterial probe into the youth's killing.
