Presumed dead, Karnataka teen wakes up before funeral
Noticing no movement or breathing, the family assumed that the boy had passed away.
The family of a teenager were shocked to see their son, presumed dead, wake up en route the cemetery in Hubballi of Karnataka. The 17-year-old was presumed dead after doctors removed him from life-support and the family brought him back home. He is currently readmitted to a hospital and is under treatment.
Kumar Marewad, 17, suffered from a high fever as a result of a stray dog bite a month ago and was admitted to a hospital. As his condition worsened, he was put on a ventilator. The school drop out was from a poor family which couldn't afford the prolonged intensive care. The family was told that it was unlikely for the teen to survive if he was removed from life support since his infection had spread. The family decided to take him off the ventilator and took his back home.
Noticing no movement or breathing, the family assumed that the boy had passed away. Arrangements were made for Kumar's funeral about 2 kilometres away from him home. Before the funeral rites began, Kumar opened his eyes and started breathing. He was rushed to a nearby hospital immediately.
