New Delhi, Aug 7: President Pranab Mukherjee will turn a teacher and take class for school students here on the eve of Teachers' Day, Delhi government said today.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the President has given his consent to teach students at Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in President's Estate from 11.30 AM to 1 PM on September 4 as a mark of respect to teachers.
"I and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently met the President and requested him to interact with school students as a teacher on the eve of Teachers' Day. President liked the government's proposal and accepted it," Sisodia told reporters here.
Sisodia who conceived the idea to boost the morale of teachers, has said that there can be no greater honour to teachers of our country than the First Citizen of India functioning as a teacher on Teachers' Day.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government will soon launch a programme 'Be a Teacher' in which renowned personalities from different walks of life like art, culture, sports, business, politics and civil services would take class for students and inspire kids to achieve excellence in life. "The government has already got consent of many such personalities.
We have appealed to all entrepreneurs, atrists, sports persons, leaders of industry, officers of judicial and civil services who are desirous to join 'Be a Teacher' programme of Delhi government," Sisodia said.
