Pranab Mukherjee rejects Yakub Memon's mercy plea
New Delhi, July 29: The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has rejected the mercy petition filed by Yakub Memon. After much deliberation and following a two hour meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the President of India has rejected the second mercy petition filed by Yakub Memon, the 1993 serial blasts convict.
This has paved the way for his hanging at the Nagpur jail. He is scheduled to be hanged at 7 AM tomorrow. Meanwhile his lawyers had filed yet another petition in the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the Maharashtra Governor who had earlier during the day rejected his mercy petition.
Yakub Memon had moved his second mercy petition before the President. His mercy plea had earlier been rejected in the month of April. However after his curative petition was rejected by the Supreme Court he moved yet another mercy petition before the President.

He had also moved the Maharashtra Governor. Today both the mercy petitions were rejected. In addition to this the Supreme Court too had rejected a plea earlier today in which Memon had sought a stay on his execution.
Meanwhile all preparations have been done at the Nagpur jail where Memon is lodged. He will be woken up at 3 am and after some formalities, he will make his last walk to the gallows where he will be hanged until death.
